Six Questions with Invisible Filmmaker Stephen Spivey

Imagine if your children lived on the street, in a makeshift shack under a bridge, in the sewer, or in a box. This is the reality of 20,000 + kids in Mexico City. In Invisible: The Story and Hope of Mexico's Street Kids director Stephen Spivey explores the streets of this 22 million person city looking for an answer into this overwhelming dilemma.

The film screens at the Churches Making Movies Christian Film Festival in Secaucus, New Jersey on Saturday October 15th, 2017 at 2:30pm. For more information, please visit churchesmakingmovies.com.

What was the biggest challenge you overcame to make your film?

Hands down budget - being in a foreign country and trying to relay the horrific plight of the street kids to Americans is hard - much less trying to get them to participate financially.

Who are your biggest influences in film and why?

Darren Wilson for his simplistic approach of bringing the viewer into the film experience. Ray Comfort for his boldness.

What is the funniest or weirdest thing that has ever happened to you on set?

Funniest thing is sitting with the editor and Asst. Director, in post production, looking at all of our footage. Filming had been tough and hard on all participants. We were mentally and physically tired, and I guess, after taking a deep breath, and realizing that we still had a long ways to go in editing, etc., we just started laughing for about five minutes straight. It was therapeutic.

What is your favorite Bible verse? How does this influence your filmmaking? 1) Luke 24: 46-48, "and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things."

2) I understand, in everything I do, that Christ died for us and we should be bold and tell people the truth. Be casual in our faith is not an option - we must go and share the gospel... whether that is in your neighborhood or on location.
