Film festival director, Podcast Host, and Speaker

LaVonne McIver James was born in Newark, New Jersey and raised in nearby East Orange. She graduated from Clifford Scott High School and then earned her bachelor’s degree in Communications from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. She also earned a Master’s in Communications from Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ.

She is currently the executive director of the Churches Making Movies Christian Film Festival, the largest Christian film festival in New Jersey, to be held October 11-13  in Metro New York.  In its seventh year, the festival screens films from around the world produced primarily by churches and media ministries.  It is the only film festival in the world devoted to celebrating church- produced films.

She is the host of the Two Minutes to a Greater Creative Youpodcast, and the  NJ area Director of the Hollywood Prayer Network.  

She spent over ten years as a public relations professional for top New York City agencies including Hill & Knowlton and Edelman PR where her specialty was hi-tech media relations. As a PR pro, she consistently booked her clients with top media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Investor’s Business Daily, and CNBC.

She started her career as an intern reporter for the Greensboro News and Record after an editor there read one of her articles in her college newspaper.

 

She and her husband of twenty three years have two young adult children and reside in Northern New Jersey.
