Six Questions with One Day Director Gwendelynn Martindale

Martindale is director of One Day, a short film about a young man who finds out that he has only one day left to live. He makes a plan for how he will use his one day, but things do not go as planned.

One Day screens at the Churches Making Movies Christian Film Festival in Secaucus, New Jersey on Sunday, October 15th at 3:30pm.

What is your film background?

A photographer first then 5 years in filmmaking.

As a Christian, how do you see yourself impacting the film industry?

I want to make quality films that glorify God and have great storytelling.

What was the biggest challenge you overcame to make your film?

There are tons of challenges in filmmaking but I knew God’s blessing was on this project so I just had to trust him and go for it.

Who are your biggest influences in film and why?

Philip Telfer for his solid teaching on media discernment and Stephen Kendrick who I meet early on when I started getting into filmmaking.

What is the funniest or weirdest thing that has ever happened to you on set?

When Rich Swingle our Acting Coach said, “the turtles are coming” it was a simple mix up in words while narrating the tv channels for our lead actor. You can go to www.crosslinecinema.comand get the DVD which includes the Bloopers to see why this is so funny. The coolest thing that happened on set was, there was a huge gigantic rain storm and we needed to film outside so we prayed for the rain to go away and God broke up the storm and it literally went around our location, very cool!

What is your favorite Bible verse? How does it influence your filmmaking?

2 Corinthians 5:15 – “And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”
